Hardwood floor refinishing in Evergreen and the foothills

We refinish traditional hardwood floors on site in Evergreen, Genesee, Golden, Morrison and Conifer. Each floor is sanded flat with dust-collecting Lagler equipment, checked for loose boards, filled with color-matched filler, refined, then stained and finished. Same process, same crew, every job.

Our refinishing process

Sanding a wood floor should get time and attention. No rush jobs, and no cutting corners. These are the four stages every floor goes through.

  1. Flat and fresh. A great floor starts as a flat, clean canvas. We sand methodically with Lagler equipment, which is efficient at dust collection and leaves your home clean.
  2. Filling the void. After sanding, we vacuum, inspect for loose boards and secure them, then fill the floor with a color-matched filler.
  3. Refined, not rough. Once the filler is removed, several rounds of refinement bring the floor to an even burnish. The surface ends up uniformly smooth to the touch and ready for finish.
  4. Finishing first. We use proven finish systems, a range of color systems and penetrating stains. Our application routine is methodical and consistent, so the floor is finished properly the first time.

What we ask before we start

Restoring a hardwood floor takes more than showing up with tools. We start by evaluating the floor with you:

  • Are the boards loose, or well fastened?
  • How sensitive is everyone in the house to smells and dust?
  • What color do you want the floor to be when we're done?

The answers shape the sanding plan, the finish we recommend and the schedule.

What a flat floor looks like

Here is one of our floors before and after. No chatter marks, no waves and no dishout, just flat wood with an even sheen and color.

Why the finish bond matters

Part of experience is avoiding problems before they start. A finish has to bond well to the wood. When it loses adhesion, it peels and chips, and that's a big problem to fix later.

We're not trying to spread doom and gloom. Hiring a floor sander should come down to more than price, because the lowest price can bring the biggest problems.

Training behind the work

Cliff is a second-generation floor sander with formal product training from Loba, Bona, the NWFA and Lagler. We keep investing in training and education so the work keeps getting better.

How long will we need to be out of the house?

It depends on the finish. Conversion varnish and oil-based polyurethane need 1 to 2 evenings for the coating to dry and the solvents to clear the house. Water-based polyurethane and hardwood oils need at least 24 hours. We'll lay out the schedule for your floor at the estimate.

Is sanding a floor dusty?

We sand with Lagler equipment, which is built to collect dust as it works, so your home stays clean. We also use finishes chosen with indoor air quality in mind, including low-VOC oil options.

Can you blend new boards into an existing floor?

Often, yes. One customer had two kitchen island supports removed, which exposed beat-up 1960s hardwood with screw holes right next to a freshly refinished floor. Two other companies turned the job down. We refinished it and blended the patch in.
